Today in class we started a new unit called, Population and Settlement. We talked about how much the population is in China and the US. Jason shared that in China their population is so big they limit families to only having one child, which we do not have in the US. For my notes I took down there are over 7.5 billion people on the planet right now and increases 73 million a year. This broken down smaller is 200,000 people a day, 8377 a minute, 149 a minute, and 2.5 people per second. 90% of the population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. The US is a developed country but just because a country is wealthy doesn't mean that it is developed. There are 7.5 billion people in the world right now but it took over 10,000 years for the population to reach one billion. Now the population goes up a billion every 10-12 years. People predict by the time there are 15 billion people countries will start to have issues such as fighting over land, water, and not having enough jobs for the population. I am excited to learn more about this and how things like this are figured out and calculated.
