Excellence

Today in class we learned more about A Message to Garcia. We learned that it was an inspirational essay and became so popular that it became a book and a movie. Elbert Hubbard made the two page essay into a fourty-two page book, the book sold over 40 million copies and translated into thirty-seven languages. It was written during the Spanish-American War, the arrmy officer Rowan delivered the message and was the one who inspired Elbert. Some vocabulary I learned today was,

  • perihelion- the point when a planet is closest to the sun.
  • Slipshod- careless, remiss
  • Imbecility- incapable, stupidity
  • Stenographer- Someone who keeps track of what was said during an important event.
