asylum

Is President Trump undermining asylum or restoring it? In 1939 the Holocaust had just started to begin and 900 Jews came over near the Florida Keys and asked for asylum. The United States did not let them in. After being rejected for asylum in the US they were also rejected in Paraguay and Uraguay and other European countries they were forced to go back to Germany where most of them were put in death camps and died. During a 1951 United Nations meeting they came up with an idea called, Non-Reforma (non-returning). This stated that the nations would accept everyone into their country if they could prove they were suffering from one of the five levels of asylum. You have to prove that you are being persecuted by your government, being persecuted by people in your nation and your government not doing anything about it. The five forms of this are, race, nationality, religion, political beliefs, social groups, and later added domestic violence under Obama. People came over from Hati seeking asylum, the United States turned them away and sent them back.
