The 5 Major Religions

Today we started a new unit about the five major religions. I have learned about these before but maybe it will be from a different view since we're not going to be focusing on just the religious part of it. We learned today that the worlds largest is Christianity with 2.2 billion adherents which is the largest in the world. Christians are mostly located in Europe, North and South America, and Southern Africa. There are different denominations of Christianity such as, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestants. The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ and is Abrahamic in origin. Christians main Holy Book is called, The Bible. They believe that Jesus is human and divine, born, life, crucified, died, buried, resurrected, then ascended.
The second largest religion is Islam with 1.5 billion adherents. This group of people are called, Muslims and most of them are located in Indonesia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Muslims have two denominations, Sunnis (75-90%) and the Shiites (10-20%). These two groups do not get along even thought they are based off of the same beliefs and teaching of Muhammad. The Islamic religion was created by Muhammad (570-632). The Holy Book they use is called, Qur'an (Koran). They believe in one god (monotheistic) and is also an Abrahamic origin. The believe in the five pillars which are, testimony, prayer, alms-giving, fasting, and pilgrimage.
